Meet and Greet: As hosts of the show Ryan and Bill entertain with their “guy” antics and comedic exchanges. Blasting onto the scene in “Darlin,” (Ryan’s blue Mustang) the car slides into an empty parking spot on the edge of town. Greeted by our hosts we meet the featured inventor and “Backyard Genius” for the day’s episode. This standout “social entrepreneur” was nominated online by citizens and peers as an unsung hero of the community, chosen for their passion to build amazing inventions that offer a better life through innovation. After a brief introduction the inventor invites the hosts to check out their backyard creations.
On Location with Inventor: Once on location our hosts will interview and interact with the inventor and their devices. Questions will be asked about the inventor’s motivation for creating their invention(s) any personal challenges faced, how it was built and how it impacts society.
In action: Upon completion of a brief step by step “creation of” the invention, the hosts will put the finished device in action and show the audience how it functions. When possible, the hosts and inventors will reveal the device to those intended to benefit from it. During this time and when appropriate, commentary from other people referencing the featured inventor and their contribution to the community will be cut into the episode.
Appreciation Award: At the end of the day Ryan and Bill award the inventor with a plaque of “Excellence in Innovation” from BYG along with gifts of appreciation from the community and the producers.
Local Traditions: In celebration of honoring this new Backyard Genius, the hosts and inventor go discover what customs and traditions the locals do for fun and entertainment. After partaking in the festivities the hosts get notified by email that another “Backyard Genius” has been nominated some where else. Bill shouts out, “we gotta go” and the guys thank everyone and race out of town to their next destination.
